RANDOM STARTS
Here you will find a selection of raw, abstract marker sketches that have again been composited in Photoshop but not yet painted over. There is one in the upper-right corner of this page and some in the lower left and middle right-side of the opposite page. What I really like about doing these is that technically I hand-drew everything, but I do not think I could have if I had set out to do them in color, as they are now. The magic of Photoshop and digital experimentation, plus the many ways things can be composited and mixed, is a lot of fun. The other pieces are all starts to pieces that may be visited again in the future. Sometimes they start as story ideas, but usually I let the color and mood of the piece drive the story, and then I add figures to indicate the scale and support the story. As humans we have a predisposed tendency to search an image for other humans before we look for anything else. Knowing this, I like to include figures in my work to lead the viewer’s eye to specific areas of interest. |
