SCI-FI RUINS »
The backstory on this piece might be something like this: three explorers are out for an afternoon in their airships. They might be on another planet with all the former inhabitants now long gone. Our lead explorer has already landed and his companions are on approach to the deserted, strange-looking buildings of the past. At first glance, the buildings look as if they had once been magnificent, shining, contemporary examples of the design of their time. Though in ruins, we can still see the strange, translucent material of their construction: not quite glass, not quite steel. Pure “unobtainium” as we used to call unrealistic materials when I was in school. Due to the bright colors and flowing ribbons in this piece, one of my students pointed out that maybe these three people have taken the day off from the local air show or circus for a little adventure? Whatever story the piece suggests to you, I hope you enjoy it.
Regarding the airship designs themselves, these ships came directly from my quick, left-handed sketches. I just grabbed a few that I liked and dropped them into this Photoshop rendering where I added color, and refined the perspective and the designs. |
